Tips??

Hey guys, I got an f150, 5 speed. I'm going to be pulling a 2800# boat/trailer combo. Any tips for getting that thing moving off the ramp?

I'm rated for 3500# so I think I'm going to be ok but I just wanted some advice/hints/tips!

Thanks
Justin

I'd say you're going to be fine. Make sure your tires have good traction on the ramp, a limited-slip diff. is a plus.

I read somewhere that I should use the emergency brake so I don't ride the clutch when I'm pulling it out of the water.

I've heard that technique is good for those who are learning how to start out on an incline with a manual tranny. If you've been driving one for a while, I wouldn't think you need to do that. My first truck was a 5 speed and I could keep it sitting still on a hill in 1st gear with out using the brake.... but that's me.

List some specs on your truck ( year\engine\4x4or4x2 etc.) if you would like some more input.

Yea, I just wanted to stay off of the clutch mutch as possible so I don't smoke it. I was thinking though, if I did use the emergency brake I would probably spin the tires a bit and lose traction..I dunno guess I'll have to wait and see this spring

Don't ride the clutch, and if you're a 4x2, don't dip the rear wheels in the water.

Don't do that. Brakes are cheaper to replace than clutches.

Using the ebrake on soemthing with a a pedal lever would be difficuilt because you cannot control the release very much, nothing like a hand brake.

If you have 4wd, use 4Low for reduced clutch wear. LSD or locker would be good for 2wd.

Do you have a limited slip?

No, I was looking into what it would take to change it though.

Use the ebrake - start letting up the clutch and when you feel it start to shudder release the brake.

If the wheels spin, feather the clutch and back off the gas a tad. It will take a good amount of slippage before it starts to overheat and stink.
