98 f-150 trailer wiring problems

my 98f-150 the trailer lights don't work on the pickup.

I bought an aftermarket plug you plug into the wiring harness on the pickup and they still don't work.

Can you send me a relay and fuse diagram for the trailer tow lights?

Thanks
Chad

trailer wiring

I have 98 f150 4x4 and the trailer lights don't work.
I bought an aftermarket plug which did not solve my problems.
I also used the relay and fuse diagram from the 2000 f150 to check the relays and that diagram appears to be different than my 98

Does anyone have a relay and fuse diagram for a 97 or 98
Thanks
Chad

1997 through 2003 all use the same wiring harness, wiring schematic, fuse and relay locations.

Start with a test light and ground it on the truck 7 way plug , open the cover it is the pin in the 7 o'clock position. This is the trailer ground. With your key in the on position (Doesn't need to be running), turn on the park lights and the 4 way flashers.

Positions at 3 and 9 o'clock should be flashing, 11 and 1 o'clock should be steady hot. If they are not working try putting the test light ground on the bumper or other suitable chassis ground and try again. If they now work you have a bad ground at the 7 way plug.
If they are still not working it will be time to check fuses and relays and if all seem to be in order it will be time to trace the wires from the rear bumper forward to see where they got cut; or take it to somebody who does this for a living at any trailer service shop.

go here and look at your owners manual online. look at your fuse locations
https://www.fleet.ford.com/

there's 2 fuses that could have blown. the one thats most common for me is under the hood, in a smaller box next to the main power dist. 20a if i remember?
