Towing Boost

I have a 17.5 Bayliner that I will be towing with the truck below (stock 4.6). I have to tow it up a 2000 ft grade to get it back from the river. What are the best things to do to my truck to make this easier? I was thinking of CAI and exhaust for power and a tranny cooler. Any Ideas are appreciated.

Have you experienced problems with towing the boat?? I would tow it home with an empty gas tank (on the boat) if possible. I have a 19' Rinker w/ a 43 gal. gas tank. I tow it with no problem. But a Super chips tuner will help along with a cat back system. and an air induction kit.

Gears on a 4X4 are in the $1500 range, parts and labor at a qualified and experienced shop.

towing

boat is a moderate size and should not tap the 4.6 power to much. A good place to start that is easy on your pocket book is with a K & N filter. The dual exhaust is another source of power that is relatively inexpensive. The filter along with a less restrictive exhaust just might do the trick. Then if you are not happy with the performance you might look at a superchip.

remember you are not towing up a grade all the time when you are thinking about the cash outlay. Good luck.

gotts intake, long tube headers with dual exhaust and H-pipe (for low end torque), 24# injectors, 80mm MAF, custom tune and a shift kit (transgo or factory tech) along with 4.10 or 4.30 gears and you'd probably be a lot happier

Unless you feel the need for speed. Your truck can easily pull your 17.5 Baylines competently and safeyly. It only weighs in the low to mid 3s even with the trailer. I used to have a 18.5 and hauled it all over with about 1K pounds of "stuff" in my bed. Friend has a 4.6 and pulls a 23' boat on a trailer 300 miles each way - no issues.

Yeah, I towed it all all last year. The major issue is the very steep 2000 ft grade. It makes for a very very slow trip and I bought the truck as an improvement over my jeep's 4.0

Spend the extra $5 and put the pedal to the floor Works every time my friend. I towed a 3000lb boat with 1000lb in the bed no problem with my 03 2x4 4.6 crew cab that I had. You will be fine just push a little harder on the pedal There is a huge hill on route 7 on my way to winchester and I just get the truck up to around 4k and it holds there all the way up the hill and does just fine

I just had 4.10's installed on my 07 2WD 4.6 and they made a nice difference. I haven't towed anything yet, but you can feel the extra pull when I step on it.

If you're fine as it is.... either push the pedal to the floor a little more, or do the simple, intake/exhaust/programmer. If you are towing ALOT go for gears, but with 4x4 it will cost like said above about $1500 and then you will suffer some gas mileage on the highway when you're not pulling the boat. IF you are even considering spending 5-8 g's on a supercharger.... You'd probably be better off spending that on getting a truck with the 5.4.
