7 pin/ 4 pin combo conversion questions for a 2000
Don't shoot me, I've searched and couldn't find exactly what I needed to know. I ordered the 7/4 pin harness, OEM Ford item and the pig tail for the brake controller. As far as I can tell, the OEM plug is plug and play right? Just disconnect the 4 pin one that's there to the new one (driverside frame rail) and mount the new plug, nothing more? or is there? Do I add a fuse or relay switch? I'm assuming I would when I got a brake controller, but for now I'd be OK? Someone here was going to send me a pdf on what had to be done etc, I can't remember who and I never ended up replying back to say yes, please send. I think it was a member with Colorado in his username. A brake controller is in the cards down the road because I want a car hauler with electric brakes.

Yes all you have to do is match up the wires and splice them. I put a 6/4 on my '03. I bought it a tractor supply, but I just wired it up and put black plastic/flexible conduit over it all the way to the spare. I screwed the harness mount to the bottom of my receiver tube. I taped up the brake leads and zip tied them up by the spare (out of the way of mud and water) in case I ever decide to put a brake controller on my truck. Works like a charm.

If you bought the kit that has the 7 pin and 4 pin connector and the mounting bracket, you will not have to splice anything. It is "plug and play". Just follow to where the old 4 pin connects, and you will see a ground to the frame, and a connector into the wiring harness. Disconnect, and connect the new to the same spot, and the ground to the same spot.

Sorry, it's for the key on power source. Got it on, the factory 7/4 combo plug, easy and it was cold out. One thing to remember, when re-installing the bumper bolt for the bracket, make sure you clean the undercoating grease off the bolt threads and the threads it goes into. I ended up x-threading the stupid thing and was gentle with it. Oh well, I used a nut and bolt instead, fixed that problem.

I just got a Prodigy on ebay for $79 plus shipping to Canada. Seemed too good to pass up so I bought it immediately. Just waiting for it's arrival. On another note, the Ford number I used I got from this thread:

However, Ford changed the letters a bit so if you're parts guy was or is smart enough to look it up on his own you're all set. Use that number in the link and google it to find cheap online Ford parts. The harness plug was the same number though.
