towing a 7x16 enclosed trailer
Ok I've searched for awhile on here and it seems there are alot of opinions when it comes to towing. I have a 05 5.4 fx4 scab with factory tow package with edge programmer, k&n, banks monster exhaust, 2inch leveling kit and 33's. I'm looking for a trailer to haul my quad/quads on the weekends. I'm looking at a 7x16 enclosed tandem axle vnose trailer, is this going to be feasible on a weekly basis or should I look smaller. I'm talking at most 2-3 hours 1 way trips with at most 2 quads and some gear. I see people do it all the time, but this is my daily driver and I dont feel like tearing something up. I know I'm gonna lose some with the taller tires, but overall is this going to tow decent. Gas milage isnt a major concern, I'm more interested in long term effects on the truck. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

I think that should be a perfect combination. I am not sure what that will all way when loaded up for the weekend but I doubt very seriously that you will have any problem what soever. Look at my gallery, I tow a 27' TT that weighs about 6500lbs when loaded up for a week. I will be the first to tell you that you will not win any races. However I promise you it will not be the slowest thing out there either. I can easily do 65mph comfortably all day long and only drop to 55 on bigger hills. The biggest hill that I have climbed is jellico mountain on the way to Gatlinburg TN. I dont know if you are familiar with that area but it is pretty steep and pretty long. I think without killing my truck the slowest I got down to was 53mph. Just dont floor it every where you go take it easy and your truck will be fine. Just for reference i have 295/70/17 tires with the 2.5" leveling kit, edge, and 3.73 rearend.

heck yea
I towed a buick from Madison back to Minnesota a seven hour trip twice. I had no problems what so ever, it was even over the tow weight ( I was pulled over when i missed the first weigh station). It didnt even give it any after problems! I say it should be fine! I think the max is about 7999lbs for that year. with all of that it does not add up to that at all

Keeping the tow weight under 5k is what the F150 was built to haul.
It won't flinch, it'll just show it's load when accelerating.
How do you figure? Since the tow rating on my truck is 9300lbs. These trucks are "built" to TOW more than 5k hence the higher tow ratings. thats why I tow 6500lbs, so far I have 40000 mi on my truck and runs like new, granted I only tow about 4000miles a year but still!

looks like your going to be fine. I pulled a 8'x18' cargo trailer cross country with my 2002 ext cab 4.6/ 4.10 gears. trailer+cargo= 10,600lbs.
I also recommend the trailer have electric brakes, and the v/nose. Also, a weight distributing hitch will help. I have the prodigy electric brake controller, and it worked great! I have the controller mounted beneath the steering column.
Since you already have the towing package, your truck should be set!

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah the one I'm looking at is a v-nose and yes it does come with trailer brakes. What kind of a brake controller do you guys use? Is the weight distributing hitch necessary and what is the best to get? I havent did very much towing with this truck as you can tell. The most I've had is a flat 5x8 trailer with a quad on it. I'm not looking to be super fast or tow the most, I'd just like to be comfortable and not always thinking about what I'm gonna break. Thanks again for the help.
