My 2000 supercab short bed 4.6 is about to start pulling a little more than it usually does. I usually pull a small trailer with a zero turn mower just on the ball of my bumper. But now I pull a tandem axle horse trailer with 2 horses every once in while. My truck pulls it with the ball on the bumper but i know its not rated for that. The trailer and horses probably weigh in around 4000 pounds. My truck says it rated to tow 8750 and but i need to start hauling them further.

Whats the parts i need in order to get a factory style towing package?

 

Basically just a class 3 reciever. You already have the electrical hookup I assume. If not you will need the 7 round connector, a brake controller, the associated relays, and the adapter harness to hook up the controller.

 

I think a tandem axle with 2 horses may weigh more than 4000#. A weight distributing hitch with anti-sway would probably be a good investment too, when those horses move around you will definitely feel it.
