Anyone towing a 5th Wheel

Anyone towing a 5th Wheel
Curious if anyone has towed a 5th wheel with a 3v 5.4L. Looking at maybe going with a 5th wheel that will be 24ft ot less in length but I am curious how the 5.4 performs with the increased frontal area of a 5th wheel. Any that I get will be of the ultra light variety. Any info or input would be appreciated.

I had a 27Ft TT then decided getting 5-6 mpg wasn't fun so i got a PSD, then got a 31.5 5er. What is the dry weight of the rig you are considering.
does that weight include the AC, awing, extras etc?
What unit are you looking at?

The 5.4 3V has more than enough guts to haul a heavy load - after all, its the standard engine in the Super Duty. It's the rest of the truck that's the limiting factor.

I tow a small 5th wheel with my 5.4L Screw. The truck handles it very well. I find the 5th wheel trailer cuts through the wind better than a similar sized / weight bumper tow travel trailer but my 5er doesn't have a very tall bunk as you can sit up in bed and that is about it.
I agree with what was posted above and would stick to a 6.5' bed.
That being said, there are auto-sliding hitches available but they are expensive.

My trailer is a '92 Kustom Koach (Travelaire) 23' 5th wheel. We are hoping to upgrade this year so something similar sized but with rear bunks for the kids. I used to have a 2000 Chev with the 5.3L in it and having moved to the F150 1 yr ago, I noticed the difference in torque instantly. The difference in handling was huge. The Chev felt wishy-washy when towing in a side wind where the Ford doesn't budge. Overall I am very happy with the way it tows.
The only thing that is a PITA is the depth of the F150's box. I have the pin on the trailer adjusted all the way down and the hitch adjusted all the way up just to have sufficient room between the bed and bottom of the trailer. I also had to flip the axle's on the trailer to get it to sit level. If your truck is a 4x4, you may have to do the same depending on how high the trailer you are looking at sits.
