Towing Question Across Desert..

I have a '06 screw 4x2 w/tow package 3.55 LS. 5.4, 20" wheels. I'll be towing my boat (aprox. 3200lbs.) with my family plus gear across the desert towards Don Laughlin, Nevada. Total miles one-way around 350. Ambient temp. could reach 115'f deg.+ Will I have any trouble on this trip? If so, what. Thank you for taking your time to inform me.

You should be good to go. Make sure your tires are inflated properly, clean trans fluid, fresh oil change couldnt hurt, and make sure your radiator is topped off with clean fluid. Keep an eye on the temp gauge, and you might want to look into getting a scangauge. You can monitor your trans temp along with ALOT of other vitals.

Oh sheit, you'll be totally fine. Making sure things are good should already be a priority, like tranny fluid, brakes etc. Just relax man, it's a Ford truck, it will handle that and quite a bit more.

The key to keeping the tranny from overheating is to try to keep the torque converter locked. If it starts locking and unlocking a lot, take it out of overdrive and slow down a bit.

Thanks for the responce's. I'll make sure to check on the fluids. If I keep it at 60-65 MPH. what should I expect my gas mileage to be? I think the fuel tank is 25gal. I'm glad to I purchased a FORD..

We towed our 6,000 pound (loaded) trailer across Utah and Arizona in 105 degree temps last July and had no problems.

Do you have the same type of truck that I have? If so than I should be in the clear.

It's a 3,200lb boat... I'm guessing 14 doing 65. I would pull off 13 doing 75 with my 4.6 F-150 towing a 3,000lb boat.

Yeah, but he has a NBS SCrew with a 5.4 - heavier and a bigger engine. A lot of people have trouble getting 14 on the highway with those without towing anything.

New Body Style. 2004 (except Heritage) through 2008. OBS (Old Body Style) is 1997 through 2003 and 2004 Heritage. The NBS is a considerably heavier truck than the OBS.
