Brake Controller

Brake Controller
I am in the process of purchasing my first camper. It's a 24' Sunnybrook travel trailer. The guy I am purchasing it from said he would give me the brake controller out of his pickup before I towed the camper. The brake controller is a tekonsha Envoy. He has had the controller for several years and has installed it in two different vehicles since he has owned it. Now that you have the basic info, I have a few questions.
1. Is this a good brake controller, or should I find a new one.
2. Is it good to move these from vehicle to vehicle.
3. I am looking around my local auto stores and seem to keep finding the Hayes Energizer 3 and some different models made by Hopkins. Are these any good

It will not hurt to move them from vehicle to vehicle. If it were me, I would call RVwholesalers or go to their website and order a new Prodigy. It is a great controller and you will not regret spending the $100. Set it once and forget it. Make sure you get the vehicle specific harness for it. This will make it a plug and play install if you have the factory tow package.

I am about to tow a 24' travel trailer without a brake controller. I am renting the trailer and supposedly the trailer does not have electronic brakes on it. If it does I will buy a controller and hook it up since my truck is pre wired for it.

JimBeam,
If that 24' travel trailer doesn't have electric brakes then maybe it has hydraulic or inertia brakes. It has to have brakes of one kind or another, If it doesn't then it's either homemade or someone has removed them. A trailer that size is required to have brakes. DO NOT TOW that thing without properly functioning brakes.
