WD hitch - size question
I have an '04 5.4L and 3.73 gears with the tow package. I am going to be pulling a dual axel travel trailer with a dry weight of 2800# (loaded it will likely be 3700#). I was given a WD hitch which is rated for 10,000# with 1000# trunnion bars. Can I use this hitch on my trailer without risking damaging the trailer frame when I tighten the chains or should I buy a WD hitch that is better matched to my actual trailer weight?

The 2 real choices in WD hitchs are 10k and 12k.
10k is plenty for any 1/2 ton.....no need to buy a ligher duty set-up.
You can adjust the tension with the chains so as long as you don't try and over do it you should be fine.
Most any double axle trailer will have 2-3.5k axles at a minimum so the trailer frame is rated for a minimum 7k. Using a 10k WD set-up won't hurt your trailer frame. At most it only applies 1K to the tongue or about an additional 400#'s.
When the trailer is connected if you would let 2 adults stand on the trailer tongue (400#'s) than I would say you are ok. Now if you woudln't trust the trailer to take that extra 400lbs, get a new trailer.
