Tow Package Question
I bought a 2006 F-150 KR SuperCrew 4x4 6.5' a few weeks ago from a Dealer... They had "Towing Package" on the Ad... It did not have a hitch.. and when I asked them they said they had no idea why but it did have the towing package... I looked and it had the wiring so I thought all I needed was to put a new hitch...
Well.. doing some checking with a local Ford Parts Department... I've since found out that it did not come with the Towing Package...
Besides the class III hitch... I was planning on putting a Class IV on anyway.. so the hitch isn't a big thing..
What else did the Tow Package include?

a larger Tranny cooler up front.
Makes ya feel any better, by dealer did the same thing... completely lied. Even had the "Tow Package" written on the front frickin window ! Was pissed when I found out.
Look into Troyer Performance Aux tranny cooler. much better then factory ANYTHING IMO.

there are other ones out there like that, but I prefer the ones with an extra e-fan on em. That way the cooler works in slow speeds, traffic, anywhere and does not rely on you moving fast to work !

I didn't go back. I bought the truck, service it myself, do all my own work, no need to EVER go back to a dealer... until its time for the next truck !
But i'm sure they wouldn't care. once its outta there hand, they don't much care for ya ! bastards ! Thats why they are the Stealership !

off the top of my head, the "towing package" includes a Class 3 hitch that is also Class 4 rated when used with a WD setup. HD shocks (whatever that means...). Larger amp alternator, larger trans cooler, 7 pin connector mounted to the hitch. Additional fuses, relays and a brake controller pig tail for connecting a brake controller inside the truck needed for the 7 pin connector.
That's about it I think... If your truck only has a flat 4 connector, then it's just a plain jane truck... All F150's built after 1996 came with a flat 4 connector and you had to then put a ball on the BUMPER in order to tow anything... All of them will have the under the dash connector for a brake controller, but you need the fuses, pig tail and 7 pin out back to use it..

HD shocks is a myth dude... its the same ones, i'll betcha $100. I have taken both off of trucks and played with em, no difference.
I also have the pigtail inside the truck ready for a 4 pin or 7 pin connector brake controller.
Yes, I only have the flat four out back for lighting.
No larger alternator. (why would there be ????)
I have additional fuses and relays.
So basically, its just the larger trans cooler like I said...
Oh, and my truck was just as "level" or "raked" as any other 04 with the tow package (04 had the largest amount of rake of the newer body styles)
and it wasn't it being lower in the front, but higher in the back. they added blocks in the back, so that if you fully load your bed, or tow heavy trailer, your truck doesn't squat, but sits level, keeping steering and suspension geometry all in sync.

Tow package included:
Larger trannie cooler
Hitch Class III/IV if using WD hitch
Combo 4 and 7 pin connector
That is what you get from the factory.
And if your trannie cooler doesn't look like this, it does not have the tow package.
I should also state that trucks without the tow package have a cooller that is exactly the same width, but only hal the height.

I believe Mitch is right. I think where the discrepancy comes in is Mitch is talking about the 97-03's where as you guys are talking about the new ones. I have no clue about the newer ones, never paid much attention.
From what I've read is in the 97-03 trucks do come with a bigger alternator. I believe they come with a 130 or 140 amp alternator. Where as the regular trucks come with a 95 amp. Also I believe on the older ones the trucks that do not have a towing package do not have a tranny cooler at all.
When I bought my 01 the little sheet didn't say anything about a towing package. And the salesman said he didnt think it did, so I went and looked myself. It had a hitch, 7 pin trailer hookup, tranny cooler and all the relays in the glove box. So I knew it had one. Just goes to show ya, never trust a salesman.

hmm... you may be right Rock. I know next to nothing about the older 150's. Never get them in here, never play with em out on the trail. Thats really interesting to know.
Now I am still itching to find out on these newer trucks if the alts are different. I don't think they are, but ya never know.

I just checked, current also includes an upgraded radiator. No mention of alternator. Trying to remember back, my 98 did not have the tow package, but my 01 did. I thought both had a trannie cooler, just like both had a power steering cooler, although the 98 was smaller. My 90, did not have the tow package, and did not have a trannie cooler. Had to add one.

To find out on the alts, just go to any parts store and ask what the replacement one is, or go to the Ford Parts department and ask the same question. If there is a difference, they will ask you if you need the 95 amp or the 130 amp one...
And, Rock is correct.... I keep forgetting about all the changes that took place after 2003, so I don't always keep that in mind when I post... Hell, mine is a 97, so that's where my experience is!
Back in the day, my truck actually came with a larger rad too!! You could get the std single core job, or the big a$$ dual core one!! Hey, ask Galaxy about that!
