A 2wd 4.6L feels almost the same as a 4WD 5.4L, given the same weight/cab configuration. Power is never the limit for towing. People pulled 10k pounds with less than 200ft-lbs 20 years ago.

If the gross weight of the trailer is over 5000# and/or the tongue weight is over 500#, you need a weight distribution hitch. The factory class 3 hitch is only good to 500/5000 without weight distribution.
