Pulling a 16'er?
Hi there, ive got a 2006 F-150 XL, everything on it is fully stock, the only upgrade ive got is air conditioning. I was really disappointed after i bought it when i realized it only had 3 leaf springs and a 4 pin trailer light adapter.
Before i go out and buy my pretty new trailer (link to pics and specs at the bottom) and get a trailer break system installed in my truck, i wanna know if she will pull it ok, i expect to have 2-3 commercial mowers on it at any given time.
I eventually want to get an add-a-leaf, but i wanna get the trailer first. Trailer i have right now doesnt way much and when i put 2 mowers on it, it handles fine, but the new one i want to get weighs considerably more.

What's your exact cab/bed configuration, axle ratio, and engine/transmission? If the ONLY upgrade is A/C, that implies a V-6 with a stick shift and a 3.31 axle - and that maxes out at 2400# towing capacity with a standard cab short bed.

Please confirm your configuration.
2006 XL - we got that.
Confirm that it's standard cab?
Confirm that it's a V6 with 5 speed manual?
Need to know if it's short (6.5') or long (8') bed?
Axle ratio? (Hint - post the axle code from the door jamb sticker)
No matter what you have - if it's a V6 with a stick, it will max anywhere between 2400# and 3700#. The transmission is the primary limiting factor, it has a weak input shaft. The exact same truck with an automatic maxes out from 5100# to 5700#.
Find out how much that trailer weighs empty, and how much your mowers weigh.
My 03 (specs in sig) has a factory towing package (3.55 gears and a hitch) and it maxes at 3500#.

If the axle code (2 characters) ends in "7" it's a 3.31, max towing weight is 2400#. If it ends in "9", it's a 3.55 and you can tow 3700#. I have HEARD of people that have towed 6000# with a V6 F-150 with a stick, but if you try it, you will probably tear the thing up pretty quick. You would need a heavy duty clutch and rear suspension assist, but you will probably start tearing up transmissions and you will definitely not be legal if you are stopped and asked to run over scales.
If your business is that good where you need that new trailer and need to haul several mowers around, you would be best off getting a truck that can do it and stay within factory limits. You can probably find a beater 3/4 ton rig pretty cheap, keep the F-150 for a daily driver.
