Buy a used 6x10' trailer. Either have your buddy sell it or pull it home to sell yourself. Skip the enclosed as it will get worse fuel economy than open. No tailgate on the traielr will help FE too.

So, anybody have a cost estimate on these Diamondback Covers?

They sure are purdy, but I'm assuming $1,200 to $1,500.

depending on what type of quad you have you should be able to stand on up in the bed. I haul my friends quad, it is a can am ds 450 fuel injected, and dry sump engine. With a dry sump and fuel injection you dont have to worry about oil running into the top of the head. I have a dry sump on my yfz 450 but it has a carb so I cant do it cause all the gas will drain from the bowl of the carb. we have been doing this way for months with no probs. we put a tie down on each a-arm and on two tie downs on the front bumper going to the back of the bed on the hooks so it does not lean foward breaking the rear window, never had a prob with it falling out.

I've been playing with more ideas and checking out the websites that everyone has posted. I think this will be about the best way to go. A couple 2x10's and possibly a sheet of plywood. Combined with the "bed extender" should only run me about $50 and be reuseable. Honestly, if it doesn't look and feel safe I'll leave my quad home, but I might come across a nice trailer in the couple months I have to work with.

That might work, one sideways in front, and the other front-back on the boards. I'd use a 4x8 sheet of plywood instead of 2x10's though. The boards tend to move around especially on bumps. a 4x8 sheet will be wedges between the tailgate opening to minimize that.

Or screw some 4'+ 2x4 crossways to the 2x10 to hold them in place. Then you'll keep the opening between the 2x10 to strap the quads down to the receiver. You could put one 2x4 just inside the tailgate opening so it can't slide out.
