Pardon my newbness (that's a new word that I just made up, lol) but what is it that the fuse does. So the fuse that was in the plastic package stops power from going to the trailer when the truck is off? I'm a little confused b/c I didn't have power to the interior lights until I installed the fuse.

It's not really a fuse as such. It's a relay, but it's still needed to complete the circuit. A relay is a switch that is either on or off. Relays control a bunch of other things in your truck like the dome light delay. The ability to still roll down your electric windows even if you turn off your ignition, but before you open the door. They turn off your head lights or dome light if left on with the ignition off after about 45 minutes... Etc..
There still is a fuse someplace else in the system for it as well, but it's obviously in place too.
Don't worry too much about it... I've never had cause to even look at mine and I've got a 12 year old truck...
Enjoy the trailer and all that it hauls!

LOL, I had the same problem when I picked up my new trailer. When I got home, I could not turn on any lights inside the trailer. Today I found a package in my driver door cubby hole that contained both a trailer charge relay and trailer charge fuse. As soon as I installed both, all worked fine.
