OEM Tow pkg tranny cooler 06 F 150

My truck didn't come with the tow package so I have the tiny tranny cooler. I'm considering aftermarket, but see that the OEM one that came with the tow pkg is reasonably priced from Tasca and should be a direct bolt on. Surface area is 126.5 cu inches, which is about the same as the larger aftermarket units. Does the OEM cooler do the job? Thanks!

The one I have now is 2.5" X 23" for a surface area of 57.5. The heavy duty OEM cooler is 5.5" X 23" for a surface area of 126.5. More than double the size.

I hear that a Super Duty OEM cooler is even better and it will fit.

Sorry, someone else is going to have to help with that - I'm just going on hearsay.

I suggest checking the salvage yards. Years ago, I had a 1986 F150 SWB 2WD that I towed a travel trailer with. I called the truck salvage yard in Raleigh and they had a factory used one hanging on the wall. It bolted on in the factory holes and made a neat installation.

My F150 must have been a factory freak because it is not equiped with the factory towing package, yet it has the larger 5.5" X 23" cooler. I did not have a hitch, or 7-pin wiring on the truck when I bought it, nor did it have the relays in the panel... so I KNOW it wasn't a factory tow package truck that had its hitch removed. I basically built my own towing package: class IV hitch, 7+4 pin wiring, relays and Tekonsha P3 brake controller. I am lifted on 35s and 3.55 gears, and can't remeber seeing trans temps over 165* (even towing) if that helps you in you decide.

Thanks for the info, it definitely validated my recent purchase! I ended up buying one off of Tasca Ford's Ebay listing for $108. I like the fact that it is a direct bolt on with OEM fittings and brackets instead of hose and hose clamps and aluminum strapping. I also have the Ford ESP warranty and figure if it's all OEM, it would be harder for them to dispute a repair. In fact, they would probably not even realize the cooler had been changed out. Should have it on Monday and will do the swap.

What trails do you ride in So Cal? Every spring we head down to the Randsburg area and ride for a week or so.

I ride out there a few times a year, mostly for the District 37 races in Red Mountain. Most of my riding is in the Barstow or Lucerne Valley areas since it's a little closer to Orange County. Also ride Big Bear in the summer when the desert is getting to hot. Lots of fun stuff around here to ride.

For sure. I do most of my riding in the coastal range, or the central/northern Sierra Nevadas.

Installed the Heavy Duty cooler today. Direct bolt on. Took about 30 minutes to swap it in.
