First tow questions

Hi Guys,

I have read alot of GREAT information about towing on this forum. But I still am unsure about towing my TT for the first time. I need to move it from one campground to another (about 150 miles). The trailer is a 30' 1990 Thor Chateau. The GVWR is 7000lbs but I don't know what the dry weight is or the tougue weight.

My truck is a 2007 F150 5.4L Lariat w/ a 3.73. I feel like the truck will be able to pull it because there will only be two people in the truck, nothing in the bed and the TT is empty. What I am mainly worried about is the tougue weight. The truck has the factory towing package and the tongue rating on the reciever is 500lbs w/out a WDH and 990lbs with.

The TT did come with a WDH from the previous owner but his truck was a Chevy so it sat alot lower and the hitch that he gave me is welded for his trucks height.

So, If use the WDH that came with the TT the tounge may be higher than horizontial. Or, if I don't use the WDH then I think I may exceed the tongue weight of the reciever.

I don't have the cash to get a whole new setup and I need to move the trailer this Sunday.

What do you guys think?

You can buy adjustable distribution hitches. Just that part itself.

Your truck will town fine. It will squat but so what? You might not be able to go 70mph, but it will get there.

If you plan on doing this quite a bit more though, I would get a new hitch.
