Hauling a canoe..?

i just got a canoe. Its a 16 footer and i have a short bed. what the best/cheapest way of hauling it. i tried laying it right side up and tying it down alot and it was still teeter-toddering in the bed. I'm thinking of making a frame out of 2x4's or 4x4's for the bed to keep it more sturdy and so i can launch it right out of the bed. Is there a better way anyone else does it?

I think I saw a member on here (years ago) post a pic of his truck hauling a canoe with the tailgate down and some type of extender bar that fit in the 2" receiver. I think something like that would be best if you want to haul\launch it from the bed of the truck.

I was about to suggest one of those and don't forget you will have to have a red flag on the canoe because it extends more than 4ft past the tailgate of the truck.

I like bed extension rack thing. It'd be good for hauling ladders too. I'd have to add a hitch receiver to this truck for it to fit though.

i'm thinking of building a rack type thing out of wood that attaches to the bed and extends from the cab all the way out pass the tailgate to stabilize the whole canoe.

How are you going to attach the wood to your bed?

Edit: Something like this, just in the bed of your truck?

I have this bed extension. The thing I like about this model is that it can be assembled differently so that, if you want you can put the canoe on the roof and support it just past the tailgate. Look at the 3rd pic in the ad.
