I have no problems with mine. People are overloading 3/4 tons GVWR all the time.

Just because people do it does not mean it is wise to recommend other people to knowingly do so.

I am not recomending anything. And we will just have to agree to dissagree on the towing differences between TT and FW. I have towed both a properly sway control equipped TT and now a FW, and there is no comparison between the two. Now, I never had a Hensley sway control system, that might make a difference, but none of my 3 previous TTs was ever as stable as my FW.

Nobody is questioning the stability of a FW, what's under question is exceeding the payload/GVWR of the truck.

No but I have never had our 5er wag the dog and I have towed in high winds with our's. The winds were strong enough that I would lose 10-15mph cresting the tops of hills. It can push the truck and trailer around a little but it's no where near what you get towing a bumper tow trailer even though a 5er has a higher profile.

Neither have I with my hitch properly adjusted. Is it more work to install and adjust a TT/WD system? Yep. But it is less weight on the truck's axles for a TT than the same weighted 5er.

My point is that one should choose a 5th wheel for lots of reasons, just not for stability.

That's not questioning the stability of a FW, it's just saying that a bumper pull TT can be stable too.

What do you guys recommend for a good quality hitch? My camper now just has a setup from Husky with W/D and a friction sway control. I have had no problems with this setup but the trailer is only 21' long. With upgrading to about 29-32' TT i want to get something that will give me many miles of worry free driving!

There are a few out there, but if you stick with Reese and Husky or any name brand hitch you will get a good well built hitch. Just make sure you get the correct bars for the trailer weight.

Reese strait-line. Make sure that your bars are rated for at least the tongue weight.

Reese Strait Line or Equal-i-zer 4-pt. Both are about $500 shipped. I let my RV dealer install it and paid $650 which I thought was fair markup for the effort. They did a great job setting it up.

Here is a very good calculator to assist you in deciding the weight your truck can pull.

Most opinions about what these trucks can or can not do is just that. "an opinion".

Stay within the manufacturer's recommendation for weight and you'll be fine. With all of the light weights coming out, you can now get a light weight trailer in a longer length than what you could 10 years ago.
