hitch fit on an explorer?

I have a 2001 Lightning, and was wondering if anyone knew if the hitch would fit on a 2000 explorer.

I would say no since the hitch bolts to the frame.
While the Expedition is based on the f150 I believe the Explorer frame is based on the Ranger.

I put a Reese tubular hitch on my mothers 1999 Explorer about a month ago. It's a different frame from the F-150. I also had to remove the 16" spare tire even though they stated I wouldn't.

The directions were useless as well.....
