A4OD Fluid Types

OK, I have a 97 F150 with the E4OD tranny and am about to change the fluid and filter. My question is this.. should I use MerconIII or V? Its a 97 model 5.4 with 63,000 on it. Cost of the fluid is not a factor I just want it right

The E4OD requires "Mercon" fluid.

There are two types of fluuid, MERCON and MERCON V. The E4OD requires MERCON, not MERCON V.

Just to muddy the waters, there is a new MERCON SP fluid for the new TorqShift 5 speed automatic in the diesel trucks. That is not compatible with any older transmission.
