Redline ATF

Redlines website says their ATF is compatible for trannys needing dextron, mercon, and mercon v. I thought these different fluids were not interchangeable. My tranny suggests Mercon. Will this redline fluid work and be safe for the cluthes etc?

If I wanted to sell expensive fluid I would claim it worked in everything too. Ask them if it works in honda, chryslers,etc...

Redline can't make the claim if their product can't deliver. It's called false advertising. Redline is a synthetic fluid with special agents that allow it to be compatable with all the other fluids.
Redline has been part of the racing scene for years and would'nt have survived if they were making a bad product.

I didn't say it was a bad product. Mercon V, Chrysler 7176, and Honda fluid are all highly friction modified. They should not be used in transmissions that don't require it. DexIII is not and should not be used in transmissions that do require it. I don't see how any kind of fluid could meet all of those requirements.

dirtydog,

You can use Mercon V in lieu of Mercon.

FYI, there are 5 types of Redline ATF.
Synthetic ATF - Dextron II and Mercon
Synthetic D4 ATF - Dextron III, II and Mercon. It will meet the requirements of the Dextron IV.
Racing ATF - Meets type F requirements
C+ ATF - Meets Chrysler MS7176 requirements
High-Temp ATF - For use in heavily loaded vehicles that require Dextron III or Mercon
ATF.

Valvoline Durablend meets the specs for Dextron III and both Mercon and Mercon V specs.

Castrol Mercon V meets Mercon and Mercon V specs.

You can not use Ford's Mercon in lieu of Mercon V ATF. But you can use any of the above, and most likely any other multi blend ATF, in either case. In none of the adds do they claim that you can use them in Hondas or Chryslers that do not allow the use of Dextron or Mercon ATF.

Regards

In 4r70w and some other transmissions you can use mercon V it is not recommended for certain e40d transmissions because of the clutch material. I learned the hard way I put mercon V in a transmission and it worked funny. We drained it and filled it with Dex III(mercon) and it worked fine.

Cool

HI!... I've been running REDLINE D4 for over 4 years now with NO problems at all. I'm currently running DEXTRON III with a MERCON V additive, due to a recent P.I 2800 stall converter install. Will run for a few weeks and re-install the REDLINE D4.

I switched my 2000 with 4r70w to Redline D4 at 30k. Sometimes with a part throttle take off it seem to kind of slam into second gear, the redline completely cured that. Have 5k on the change and it will definatily get Redline next time also.
