Angry Hurst shifter problem

I just installed my new Hurst shifter, part number 5025. I was assured that this was the correct part number for my 1998 V6 with an F code transmission. There was some confusion regarding this part number VS the 5026. Anyway, I was told by several vendors that 5025 is indeed the one I want. Now that it's installed, I'm not so sure. The shift **** is literally 1/4" from the dash when it's in 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. I can't shift without pinching my fingers between the dash and the shift ****. Also, I can no longer use my cupholder because it will not open with this shifter. This isn't going to work...has anyone else had this problem???

Can you post a pic of that shifter in the 1-3-5 position?

I was sent the 5026 before realizing that it was the 5025 that I needed. The only difference that I know of is the length of the lower shift lever (the one in the transmission. I don't believe that there is any difference in the angle.

It's my understanding (based on something JMC posted) that for the '97 and '98 model years Ford used carry over parts (entire transmission or some internals?) from the previous design. I guess '99 was when the changes were made that differenciated it from the previous model, but it seems that some of the older transmissions were installed in some of the '99s. I'm pretty sure that our '98s are supposed to use the 5025.

The pics that I posted with my installation don't show the shifter in the 1-3-5 position buce in the angle.

The pics that I posted with my installation don't show the shifter in the 1-3-5 position but I haven't had any clearence issues. I's certianly closer than stock but not to the point of pinching my fingers.

If you have the ability to get us pics there is a chance that someone here can help you out.
