In my 97 4x4 I'm pretty sure I have a 4r70w trans. I'm begining to feel some slippage from the trans. I have about 140k on her now. I saw a trans on ebay out of a 2003(4r70w) 4x4. Will this be a direct bolt in? If not, what years will be direct bolt ins and which years are better than others?

Be careful some 03up units don't have speedometer teeth on the shaft. 01or 02 is a better thing to use.Any 98 up is better than the 97. You'll have to swap some wiring around in the connector to use a 98 up trans.

Alan,
What wiring will I have to swap around? Is this something that can easily be done?

The colors won't be right you should really get schematics of both, but that shows you what has to change.

you will have to repin the bulkhead connector and swap out a couple sensors to make a late model transmission work in your vehicle.

Trust me the wiring isn't as complicated as it looks.
