94 f-150 4X4 question?

my dad has a 94 f-150 4x4. hes sunk thousands into it over the past couple years, i think the only thing still factory is the drive line. it has i believe around 150k. im surprised as hell that the motor and tranny have lasted this long. so, it kept shifting weird and skipping, he checked the fluid and it was low. he put some in, it was fine for 15 minutes. it then wouldnt move, he check it again and it was low again. had it towed, the mechanic told him he was sick of seeing him sink all the money into it and he could just scrap it for him and sell him a newer one (they have a used dealership there too). the body is great, all new suspension, all new brakes, newer tool box, interior is pretty good. and this guy tells him to just scrap it. he then tells him the front and rear main seal on the tranny are junk and leaking and the tranny itself got starved because of the leak and the tranny is junk. then tells him its going to be $3500 or so to fix it all. i almost crapped myself and asked if he was swapping in a t-56. so, what tranny is in it? how much would it cost to rebuild it, just need a ballpark. thanks guys, sorry for the long first post.

my truck has had the transmission rebuilt and it was done for $1800 you could just go buy a used one for a whole lot cheaper and have that one completly rebuilt for cheaper than what he told you

This is one of those deals that I hate to see happen..... get the truck and take it elsewhere ..... by the sounds of it the guy is just trying to sell something he has and I'll almost bet he fixes yours and turns it over for a quick buck
