4r70 Pan W/Drain Plug
Hey guys - has anyone tried this pan (F8UZ-7A194-AA) on the F150? I stumbled upon it on another forum (Modular Depot), it seems a lot of the Crown Vic & Lincoln guys are using this part # pan because it gives them an extra quart of fluid capacity & the nice feature of a built in drain plug. Apparently these came on Ford vans that were export or fleet duty. Im most likely going to order one up this week either way because I really think the aftermarket plug kit is going to be prone to leakage.

How much is the pan i bought a aluminum one that holds almost 3 qrts. extra for 180 . from http://www.partshp.com/Pans.htm. makes it easy with the drain and magnit tip. must use flat gasket though,

I take a look at www.maghytec.com. They have some pretty cool pans and diff covers. I have the diff cover on my truck and love it.

The factory part list is like $75 but I found it online for $55 Im gonna call the local Ford dealer tommorow & see if they can do $55 or so. I'll let ya know. Granted this pan isnt finned or aluminum nor does it hold more fluid but if it were deeper the wife would probably just rip it open on a rock or stump. I really need it to be easilly drained for maintenance purposes:-)

You right about the wife thing, mine is even with the trans crossmember at bottom. Found the place on internet , called them and they were 10miles from home lol. The drain is a must, put a factory tech valve in had trouble and could keep new fluid. paid for itself right away.Good luck with pan

Well of course none of the dealers here have it & out of 3 the best price I could find was "about $65" so I had them order one since online Id end up paying shipping anyway (though they did have the filter kit for $21 which is a great price). Whats a factory tech valve? Is that a re-tuned valve body or something?

This pan is the way to go (IMNSHO) if you need a reliable drain plug. I installed it today & it is exactly the same in every way/shape/& form as the original pan. The only problem I encountered is in relation to the filter, the silicon seal of course stuck to the inside of the bore that it goes in & for some reason had "become one" with the valve body. I had to carefully use a dental tool to pick all of the bits out, Im not sure if it was installed wrong from the factory or was melted (which wouldnt be good & theres no reason for it as the truck hasnt been abused & has 40K miles). Anyway as usual proceed at your own risk:-)

Where did you find that pan for $55 I am thinking of getting one for my 04 Expedition and the dealers in my area want anywhere from $90-$127.
Was the pan any deeper at all? I found that other forum too and someone said it held an extra Quart. Also did you have to use a different filter or did you just want to change it? Thanks

Installed an aftermarket plug kit on my E4-OD transmission pan a year ago and was kind of leary of it leaking myself. Got the plug kit from Superior. An O-ring makes for a good seal on the outside of the pan. What concerned me was that the nut that you tighten down is inside the pan at the bottom and is always soaking in the transmission fluid. Being in contact with so much lubrication, it seemed like it might be easy for the nut to get loose. I contacted Superior and was told to use threadlocker on the threads. In searching around I found some stuff called Permatex Blue Threadlocker
"surface insensitive" that I bought at BAP. It sounded a little better than standard threadlocker. For a year now it has held up well and has given me zero leaks. How ever you get one. having a plug on your transmission pan sure makes it nicer when it comes time to change the ATF. It's not such a sloppy mess.

Hi Khager - I had the same situation here, several dealers wanted more (the highest being $85). The parts guy had told me over the phone "around $65" when my wife picked it up she paid $57, also the filter was a deal at $17! Maybe he gave her a bargain? Id call around or get it off the web as several "ford parts" sites have it for less. As far as the "extra quart", no it is the same dimensions as the stock pan thus the same capacity, the reason the other site (Lincoln/Bird/Crown Vic) mentions it holding more is the pan those guys are replaceing is a tad shallower & thus holds less (car pan). I replaced the filter with the same one as original (being the same dimension pan the same filter was the correct version). I figure if youre in there might as well put on a new filter:-) Hope this helps clarify, I would have took pics but by the time I thought of it I already had quite a mess on the hands so I passed.

Hi Brad - Where did you find the Superior plug kit? It does sound "superior" to the one I found locally that was made in China! (MotorMite brand). I like the sound of the O-ring. I was thinking of modifying the pan I pulled off my wifes truck & putting it on my father-in-laws F150 so if/when he needs service it will make it a lot less messy, last time he brought his truck over for a "check-up" I found that the quicky lube place had overfilled evrything including the tranny when he had them fluch it, hes not to happy with them anymore.
