Transmission Pan - e4OD & 4R100

Are these pans the same as far as dimensions, bolt pattern, and fluid capacity? My dealer tells me the 4R100 pan doesn't have a drain plug but the e4OD does. Can I just put a e4OD pan on my 4R100? By the way this is going on a 98 f150 4x4 with a 5.4 in case that matters.

The e4OD pan is only $47 at the dealer, didn't want to drop the bucks on a new B&M pan and don't want the possibility of a leak from an add on drain plug....

Early E4OD pans don't have a drain plug. Some of the later E4ODs did have a drain plugs. All 4R100s have drain plugs as far as I know.

I believe that I have the 4R100. I even had a dealer confirm it by looking up the vin# in their system. I also show the transmission code "E" on the door jamb, however I do not have a drain plug on my transmission pan. The dealer I spoke with stated that he did not know of any 4R100 transmission pan that came with a drain plug. I guess I'll give another dealer a call tomorrow.

There are 4R100 pans with and without drain plugs. For example, Lightning 4R100s don't come with drain plugs. So, most Lightning vendors sell a Ford 4X4 replacement pan; part # F81Z-7A194-BA. It uses a deeper filter; Ford part # YC3Z-7A098-BA or Deutch TF-325. There are also another half dozen or so aftermarket 4R100 pans with drain plugs. Do a search in the Lightning area and you can read for hours if you need more information.

E is the door code for the 4R100 and E4OD

Some of the E4OD pans have no plug stock.

Let me elaborate. After you get the universal plug "kit" you will need to drop the pan & drill a hole in it then install the "kit" as the directiond state.
