weird problem...anyone else know about this?

weird problem...anyone else know about this?

Ive got an 02' 4.2 v6 and today I got in my truck and started driving...went to stop and had to put it in reverse for park..and I now have to drive on the 2nd gear for normal drive...and neutral is reverse...just had it flushed about 2 weeks ago..it shift fine...its just not matching up on the dash..anyone know what causes this??

I think you need to wait longer than 20 minutes for a reply, this place ain't a chat room.

I've heard about this issue before, you might want to search through some older threads if you can't wait for an answer.

Your shift cable need to be adjusted at the tranny, very easy to do.

There is an adjuster wheel at the column. You need to remove the upper instrument panel steering column cover. That is the cover that is shaped like a big upside down U. If you look past the 4 way flasher button you will see some rubber and the cover. Place the shift lever in 1 and pull the cover to unclip it. Under this panel you will find the adjuster wheel. Place the shift lever in D and center the indicator using the wheel. They say to hang a 3 lbs weight on the shift lever but you can just pull it straight down. Do not pull it towards you or it will move into 2 or 1.
