Built E4OD?

Anyone done this? Or have it done for them? More or less im getting after what parts need to be upgraded and what parts would hold up fine for about 600-700 horse, as it will be going behind a L swapped 97 soon enough. Any help is greatly appreciated, or even just a hint/tip/trick or what have you.

The E4OD / 4R100 is one good, stout transmission based off the "tried and true" C6 automatic of the late '60s. It is a fine transmission, but for the horsepower that you are looking at, I would recommend the following upgrades:

1. A good valve body recalibration kit (shift kit)
2. A good auxillary transmission cooler
3. A good torque converter

You might want to also look for 1997 and later E4OD / 4R100s, as they have many improvements, including:

- Thicker converter clutch piston
- Higher displacement front pump
- 4 - pinion overdirve planet and input shaft assemblies
- Stronger OD clutch cylinder snap ring
- Revised sun gear and rear case bushings
- 4 pinion planet carriers
- New forward clutch friction plates with hardened internal splines

I have heard of some of the Lightning guys putting 800+ horsepower into these transmissions with little or no problem using the upgrades I have mentioned above. My personal experience with them has been very positive; I have never had one fail when it was properly maintained, unlike a certain other brands overdrive transmissions (the "D" word). In fact, I know of one in a 20,000# motorhome hooked to a 7.5 / 460 that has over 150,000 miles on it and still going strong, as long as it gets a fluid exchange and filter on a regular basis.

they can be built to take 800-1000hp reliably.....you have to put some money in them...... and youll want to start with the geartrain from the 4r100 lightning or diesel............the upgrades mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg.....

do you have anymore info on what swaps over from the diesels or the lightning transmissions?

Ill have the longblock safe to 1,000 horse, id like to have the transmission be able to say the same...

ill hopefully be building it myself. unless its about the same price to get one built.... that is.
