How To Change TCC Solenoid
#16
TCC Solenoid
Hello Ford Enthusiasts. I have a 1996 Ford F150 2WD, 5.0. The overdrive button is blinking, and the code I get is a P0743. That says that the TCC solenoid is bad. I saw this post, but realize it is for a 2001 model. Does anyone have pics of the inside of the tranny to show the solenoid, and the wiring harness. I know now to do it, just want to make sure I buy the right parts before tackling this job. The transmission is running fine, no apparent smoke or bad odor. The overdrive works and the truck seems to shift fine. I bought this tranny off of ebay as a rebuilt one, and put it in around june of last year. When I shut the truck off and restart the blinking light on the od button goes off and only comes back on at a certain speed.
Thanks for the help and any pics someone might have.

Thanks for the help Scruffy!
So I just wanna get a run down before I start the project.
1. Unbolt the tranny pan and drain fluid.
2. Pull filter out.
3. Valve body will be exposed without having to take it out.
4. Unscrew TCC solenoid and screw new one in.
5. Unsnap/Unscrew old wiring harness to/from TCC solenoid and replace.
6. Replace filter.
7. Bolt tranny pan back on
8. Refill
And you said its all straight forward so there shouldn't be any surprises?

5 Remove 10mm and 8mm bolts holding shift solenoids.
6 REMOVE SHIFT SOLENOIDS by pulling straight out. Replace 2 small o-rings.
7 Pull out TCC solenoid
Then reverse the procedure.

I actually haven't done this yet.
I talked to my family friend who's also my mechanic and he said it could have been something sticking.
I've driven over 500 miles and the CEL hasn't come back on.

If I remember correctly the bill would have been about $480. But, being my truck was still under warranty, I didn't have to pay anything. I keep all of my receipts for work done on my truck. I will look for it and respond back with a pic of the receipt.
