Switching to Amsoil Synthetic Trans Fluid

I would like to switch my 2000 F150 5.4 Litre Automatic 4x4 to Amsoil Synthetic Transmission Oil. Can I get ALL the old Tranny oil out so it won't mix with the new? Does anyone see any problems with this?

Which trans do you have? I want to do the same. You can get all the old fluid out by dropping the pan and also draining the torque converter. There is a rubber plug in the bell housing which will enable you to get to the drain plug on it. Does amsoil meet the mercon v spec? Sparks, you there?

My Brother is a BIG Amsoil fan and Ford ONLY kind of guy. I'm not sure which transmission I have off hand, but it does use MerconV. My bro says Amsoil does meet Mercon V specs. He put it in his 2000 F250 Super Duty with PSD. Says he could feel a difference for the better....whatever that would be.

Yep, Amsoil meets it.

However, you still won't get it al out by draining the pan and TC. You'll miss about 1-1.5 quarts in lines, clutch packs etc. But don't worry too much about that, it's not a bad thing. Only way to get it ALL, is to have it done with that flush machine thingamajig.

You can disconnect and blow out the cooler lines...

Dont forget the shift kit and the deep pan with the AMsoil...

Most all the small trucks are 4r70 transmissions....

The big boys use the 4r100(diesel)..

Hi Guys,

Hey MachI.....why the bigger tranny pan with Amsoil? I do believe I have the largest towing package for a F150....17" Tires....Traction Lok Rear & Front ends. I used to put in shift kits in older cars and trucks (60's & 70's) are they still worth it? I thought certain chips would do that trick....Tell me more!

By the way in referrence to your 69 MachI....my brother had a 68' 429 Shelby Cobra Jet... Bought it new from a dealer in Connecticut when in the Navy. Carrol Shelby happened to be there he told me. My brother brought it home, to Montana, on leave (I was a kid) and my Uncle wanted him to park it in front of his Dealership. He owned a Ford Dealership. We are a Ford family from the 20's!

How does Amsoil compare to Mobile 1 trans fluid?
Is it worth the money?

There are two ways to tune a trans, with the flash program (software) or with the shift kit (hardware)...Dont do both...I had the flash then went with the shift kit...The kit had a little better results as the flash just increased line pressures...

Deep pans are good for several things, increased capacity...increased cooling effect, better looking, better sealing, etc. With a AT we want to keep it as cool as possible!!!!this can be done best with synthetics and a deeper pan...even a shift kit keeps it cooler because of the reduced slippage...

I dont much care for the 2 second mild shifts from the factory..If I wanted these I would have bought a continental....

69 mustangs are the best---espically the 429 boss or cobra jet..
I have seen them twist the frames before...aesome torque...

This is why I drive the diesel SD it is torque monster!!!!

I am an amsoil dealer, and it kills mobil 1 by the ratings and meeting specifications...I am sold on it...

Mach 1,

Which type of Amsoil should i use?
I went to their website and they have 4 different types of ATF's.
I'll be doing the oil change on a C-6 trans.

Is it a stock C6 or is it modified???what application are you using it for??These are questions I need to ask...If it is the stock C6 and you are just using it around town with no off roading then it uses the FORD ATF...Now they do have some new syn mercon out that really bites alot better then just mercon for the late model f150..I am watching this closely because they are mixing it 50/50 with regular mercon...I want to use this in my late model trucks...

I know the ratings on the amsoil outperform the mobil one ratings...

As far as I know the 4x4 trans pan is larger than the 2wheel drive tranny pan. I could be wrong. I'm guessing the 4x4 pan is the "deep" pan?

Mach1,
The C-6 i have is custom built w/ a shift kit and 1800 stall speed converter.
I use the truck 50% on road and 50% off.
I really pound the SH*T out of the trans.

Thanks,
Jerry D

When they rebuilt it did they use good quality clutchs...Right now I am talking with other people that have built 4R100 trans for the diesels that have the bulletproof trans...They are saying that the straight up syn's are too slick...They are using a mixture of 50% of this new stickier fliud and 50% syn...They are saying that it sticks better and puts down more power to the wheels...I am following this closely, because I am interested in this for my truck...The C6 is just a run of the mill trans with no eletronics or OD...So it justs uses the old Ford ATF...I would still use the syn and a deep pan though...

That C6 was one of the best trans of all times and they put it behide the 460 in the ambulances...Thats how tough they were..Excellent track trans and bulletproof...

I'm not sure what kind if clutches they used when they rebuilt it.....but it's holding up pretty good.
Maybe i'll just stick with the standard Amsoil Atf.

They're wrong. A MERCON synthetic is EXACTLY the same "slipperyness" as regular MERCON. The same applies to MERCON V vs MERCON V synthetics.

That is part of the MERCON (and MERCON V) specification. Each fluid that has a MERCON or MERCON V rating MUST meet the specification for "slipperyness," or coefficient of friction, as the engineers like to call it.

Mark
