4X4 Transmisson Question

When I shift into reverse with the truck cold as in leaving work or leaving home in the morning. I notice what feels like two (2) jolts. What it feels like is the transmission shift into gear and then the rest of the drivetrain cathes up. My question is if this is normal. I don't know if it does it going into drive. Has anybody else experience this? I have about 5900 miles on the truck and it has done this from the day I bought it.

Are you parking on a hill? Do you use the parking brake after you put it in PARK and before you let your foot on the brake? If you don't use the parking brake the tranny can rock forward before it locks and the next time you shift it feels kind of wierd.

Why not try backing into your driveway so that you can see if you feel it in DRIVE as well as REVERSE?

It is on all surfaces and it does do it in both forward and reverse. I checked that last night after I posted this thread
