Final end to my saga of installing OEM tranny cooler. Local ford dealer says "I do not recommend you try and install the factory Auxiliary cooler or you will run into all kinds of problems" He did not explain the problems. I got this second hand so I couln't quiz him on it but he has now sacred me off. Well at least I tried huh?
I am going to plan B. Aftermarket for me. So you guys like the Fluidyne? What size do you recommend for my F150 SC 4X4?

Go with the largest you can find I think mine was for a 16,000 GVW. As long as you are down stream from the raidiator the you will be fine. In advance get some extra hose high quality tranny hose is preffered and extra clamps, I too double clamed where I could. Don't forget to flare your tubes where you cut them, and use a good tube cutter, not a hack saw. Autozone has both the tube cutter and flare kit for use FREE!

Good luck.

I am looking at the 20,000+ One.(can't remember exactly what it was). Do you think it will fit in the space available?

There are two basic designs, the finned tube and the stacked plate. The stacked plate is like your radiator, it is more efficient so for a similar cooling capacity you get a smaller unit.

Well finished mine yesterday. Found a Hayden cooler rated at just over 30,000 GVWR. Put it inline with the OEM intregal radiator tranny oil cooler. Went from the tranny to OEM cooler then to auxilliary (Hayden) then back to tranny. Local reputable tranny shop and the local Ford Service Manager helped me out with advice and selection and this is what they both agreed was best and recommended doing. No leaks so far.

One note: They both said in an older vehicle they would recommend taking the OEM intregal cooler out of line and just plugging it up as there would be more of a chance for the radiator to fail and leak coolant into the tranny oil. This big one would more thatn be enough on its own. But, on ones as new as these and if well maintained, they felt there was little or no risk of that happening so the additional cooling was worth leaving it in line as previously described. They both independently verified this and said if it was there truck this is how they would do it. So that is what I did.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Tiger how is your's going?

Hey cphilip,
I just noticed you are at my old school. How are things down there? I graduated in 81. What's your status there? Send to gnwood@yahoo.com so as not to pollute the thread.
