Talking

Since this was an old topic, please help my dum-dum self out!! I called Diesel Injection and the rep I spoke with was not familiar with the 4R70W. He was not sure if it had a place to put the sender without drilling a hole. I'm going to look at my transmission tonight but would like someone else's confirmation that there is indeed a plug to remove that the sender will screw right into. If I order the ISSPRO kit (9055 gauge and 8995 sender), will I be ready to go, without drilling any holes in the transmission? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Jim

Yes, there is a port on the driver's side of the transmission. It has a black steel plug. You can install the sender here without any drilling or tapping.

Thumbs up

JCWhitney has a great selection of gages in their catalogue. They have an analog gage for transmission temperature for $16.95 and the sender is $8.95. Looks much like the gage in the posted pic. Not bad for under $30.00 !

Question

Georgekillian. Can you tell me if these senders are mechanical or electric? They sound like they are electrics. I'm gonna get one installed as my next project...

The catalogue does not state either electric or mechanical. Like you, I believe they are electric. I plan on purchasing these as my gage to use in the next month or so.

Not for nothing, when I put a temp gauge in the tranny of my Mustang(AOD, Built), the builder (Performance Automatic, Gathersburg MD)told me to install the sender in the pan, it is more important to see the temp of the fluid that the tranny was taking in, and it also provides a means of insuring the cooling system(trans) is performing it's task, also they said that you will read the fluid temp only, and in that location heat of the case will not effect it(the sender)the case will be hotter than the fluid, because the fluid is what does the cooling. And it provides a nice drain plug for service.

penguin149,
I installed my temp sender in the hard line going from the trans to the radiator. I want to know the max temp that the ATF reaches (195F so far).

Here's the Autometer manifold that I used, but you can make a 1/2" brass tee work just as well for 1/3 the cost.
