Idle Control Valve

Hey guys,

I have a 1998 Ford F-150 4.2 V-6. When I turn on the air conditioning or defroster my truck idle's very high. When I turn it off it stops. I have figured out that it is the ICV.

Now it idle's high all of the time. Can it still be that? I checked the volts on it and it is reading 12 V. It should read 10 to 12 according to Mr Chilton.

I took it off and cleaned it out and it works a little better but I wasn't sure if anyone else had an idea.

Let me know
Matt

When you removed it did you disconnect your battery? If after cleaning the IAC,you must reset the computer to learn the IAC is working correctly.

Yep what blue oval said. Disconnect the battery for a lil bit and then let the truck run at idle for a few and then drive it. The computer needs to relearn IAC strategy.
