Most common vacuum leak to set both banks lean is the PCV system.

Hope this is not indicative of similar problems that i had out of my previous truck, a 2004 Heritage with the 4.2. Following an oil change, it threw the same codes, so the helpful guys at AutoZone (anyone remember AutoShack?) told me to replace the 02 sensors. $200 later, the light is out for maybe two weeks.

Two weeks later, I notice a stumble in power and take-off, and the local Ford dealer tells me that the EGR valve needs replaced. This is right after the Bush stimulus check in '08, and it takes it all. Every Penny. I almost swore off Ford for giving me a lemon and sticking me with it, when I go on the lot in late May and find Big Grey.

She was not as fancy as my Dad's '07 XLT, and the Dark Shadow Grey looked a little bland to me, but she has grown on me over the past 3 years, and now I won't think of anything but a Ford. Make mine F-150!

Good luck with your truck, and I hope it lasts you many, many years. I just had to tell that story to let you know that hopefully it will be a quick fix and then you'll be on the road again

Mine was odd. I dropped to 10/12 mpg and I kept getting the 0171/0141 codes. I searched and searched for a leak. I finally took it to my dealer, and they came back saying one of my catalytic converters were clogged. Sure enough I swapped them out and codes are gone.

it runns great. at idel it has a small skip but as far as gas mileage is good, power is good for a v6, and dont skip other than at idel. just want to get the code gone.

What are the exact "P" codes you are getting?

In addition to the normal vacuum leak suspects, the V-6 tends to go through plenum gaskets and isolator bolts.

Yeah my check engine light has been on for over a year now. Still runs good and everything and gets good gas mileage.
