Hard Starting When Warm

My 94 5.8L Fires up instantly in the morning. However, after the engine has warmed up, it starts very hard. Ford engine analyzer has found nothing wrong, but mechanic agrees something's amiss. New coil, wires, module. Nothing so far has alleviated the problem. Any ideas?

Cool

Do you mean on the warm start, it cranks and cranks and cranks for a good 5-6 seconds?

yes. Sometimes even longer. Fuel pressure holds when engine off. It helps to open the throttle half-way on warm startup.

Cool

I had the same problem. 2001 5.4 supercrew.
They got tired of me taking the truck back for that proble.
Mine would also have a big puff of smoke coming out of the exhust when it finally fired up.
They told me I wasn't driving the truck enough so it couldn't warm up.
They told me it was normal and don't bring it back here anymore.
i have only 12000 miles on it.
My case goes infront of the jury in march.
I have been waiting a year to make them take this garbage back and give my money back.
I wish I had some sort of a fix for you.
I will keep you paosted of the outcome.

I have that exact problem, started at 17k, now have 35,400 miles
...goes off warranty in 600 miles.
Just returned from second dealer a few minutes ago. They found nothing. No codes, nothing. The Dealer I bought it from also found nothing. Do I believe them? Yes I do, but I'm sure they think
I'm a quack for bringing it in. Neither could verify my claim.
It started at 17k, when I would turn the key (engine warm) the truck would start but surge like mad and stink something terrible. Best I could tell the truck had to sit for about 2 hours before it would happen. Cold starting has not been a problem.
As time went by, you would turn the key(when engine warm) and it will not start at all. I now have to crack the throttle to start it but it no longer surges and stinks like it used to.
It now happens after sitting in the off position for a 1/2 hour or so. Other than that it runs fine. Sure would like to know if any of you have had this problem fixed so I can get it done before warranty runs out.

Cool

That sounds exactly like my problem.
they also didn't belive me for the first 2 visits.
You know! the "could not duplicate the problem"
So I video taped my truck at the engine (cranks and cranks and cranks) also the second view is from my tail pipe (big puff of smoke)
Now the answer changed. They went to the other line they use."that is normal"
That's Ford for you my friend.
As long as your truck is under warranty and they don't know what's wrong, they say it is normal. however if the truck is out of warranty, they will change anything they can find to find the problem on your expence.

Oh,... I just figured I'd take it over to see Joey. Every town has a Joey, usually a small shop, does all the work him/her self.
Our local Joey does 'em all beemers to busses. I had a 94 t-bird with a nasty squeak when cornering at any speed. Dealer had it 5 times, then refused to give me a recipt for the sixth ( Lemon Law ) I took it over to Joey and he walked around the front end and gave it a push and said ' you need struts' ....Duhhh.
Got the dealer before the judge, they lied like a rug, we offered loaner cars blah, blah, blah...all bull. Got my money back.

I had the same problem with my 2001 5.4. I too brought it to the dealer they said no problems no codes and good to go! It started around 15000 -18000 miles and will somtimes just turn over for 5-7 seconds somtimes longer. A couple of times it wouldn't start at all for a few minutes. I would try to give it a little gas and then it starts and smokes then run fine no power loss at all............?

Red face

What I don't understand is, why do people put up with this?
Enough people file a lemon claim, maybe Ford will put their s--t
together.

Judging by the small size of this thread, it appears we have a unique problem. Annoying but unique. Just started having a real rough Idle. 400 miles left on warranty.

My rough idle started at 7000 miles.
The dealers respond to that you may wonder?
"That's normal for F150's" !!!!!!

The Ford mechanic still has the pickup in their garage. In his spare time he's going to replace every ignition, emission, etc. part. If he finally finds it, I buy the part. If it doesn't fix it, he puts my part back in. If he ever does figure this out, I'll let you all know.

That would be nice, let us know. Throttle was stuck like a rock this morning. Probably some ice, it's real cold here, 6 degrees this morning. Gotta love that Mobil one, very little noise and instant oil pressure.

Warranty is now expired. Problem is still there. I'll be watching to see if one of you comes up with a fix.
