Question Which oil filter do you use??

Before anyone flames...Yes I've read the loooong report that somebody did on oil filters. That person recommended wix and purolator oil filters, but I was wondering what brands ya'll use and where you get them from. While I was under warranty I always bought motorcraft filters just to avoid warranty problems. I've been doing it since my truck was out of warranty 30k miles ago. I got to thinking about switching on my last filter change, but I like the $2.00 factor that motorcraft brings to the table. I went looking for other filters and they all had Fram part numbers(BOOO FRAM). So, what do ya'll use and where do you get them from?

Thanks,

~Mark

Red face Hmmm

Since i've had my truck (oh...About a month now) I changed the oil filter from a Motorcraft to A Fram. I think it's fine, as far as oil filters go...I especially liked the Grip feature...I use Casrtol 10w30 Motor oil, and am very happy. Since i've owned my truck, i've done an oil change, spark plug change, Re paint, And lots and lots fixing/restoring.

I have been useing Motorcraft 820S filters since new, over 100K now. If I'm not going to spend the money on a synthetic filter, I don't have any reason to change, it's a good filter.

I get my filters from autozone, advance, walmart, ect..... who ever has the low price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Purolator makes Motorcraft filters.

In general, I have been useing factory oil filters on all my vehicles for about 20years and no problem. I have a 92 Pontiac with 200K+ miles useing ACDelco PF51s, doesn't burn or leak oil.

Don't know if this helps, but I just switched to a Mobil 1 M1-210 synthetic filter in my 2001 Screw (10K miles). I also switched to 5w30 Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic oil at the same time. Before anybody flames me on the price of that filter (about $10), please note I got lucky and bought an open case of 10 of them from a local auto parts store that was going out of business. Got 'em for about $4 each.

I've got to change my sig, but I use Mobile1 5W-30 with a NAPA GOLD filter every 5k since I've gotten off the Amsoil - too expensive and I can't commit to not changing the oil once a year!

97 F150,4.2V6,82Kmiles.I only use Motorcraft 400S oil filters I get at Wal-Mart for 2.77 each.I just cant see myself using a FRAM due to the way they are made.Cardboard ends glued to the very little filter media inside, which sometimes breaks apart and goes into your oil.And a rubber anti-drain back valve that leaks.I guess if you like all those features in a oil filter buy a FRAM.Sorry, but when I hear or read about FRAM it hits nerves!

I've gone back to using Motorcraft oil filters. They are cheap at Walmart. $2.77. I get 6 at a time.

When I used a Champ oil filter I had upper drive train noise when starting the motor in the morning due to that filter not having an anti drain back valve.

I use the motorcraft 820s. I read a report that the Motorcraft FL-1A was actually a Purolator premium filter with a different case & paint job. Multiple filters were taken apart for this report & they found Purolator to have the best filter element & overall contruction of those tested. They didn't take apart a 820s, but at my next oil change I did (got kinda messy with a used filter & an anti drain back valve) & found that this matched certain characteristics that only Purolator uses. Best of all, your getting a premium Purolator filter for a reduced price.

I have been using Mobil 1 filter with 5w-30 Royal Purple and changing every 5 - 6k. I plan on switching to Motorcraft filters next time because of all that I have read about them, not to mention the price at Wally World!

Motorcraft filters (FL-820S) are synthetic compatable. I've been using one with Redline 5w-30 for over a year. I've also used K&N oil filters, but the anti-drainback valve makes an unusual clicking noise.

You cannot go wrong with the FL820S!

The low-end Frams have a cardboard anti-drainback valve.

Napa Gold Filter ( actually it is a WiX filter under all the Napa branding, this applies to the Gold only, I don't know who makes the other Napa filter myself Consumers report for the source of this ).

I am closer to a Napa then to a wally world, that is the only reason I go that route ( and maybe I am too lazy to wait in line behind the lady with 47 packages of dipers and 27 small items so I can buy 6 filters ).

In and out at Napa
