A motor is a motor is.........?
I got a call from the dealer about 11:00AM today, telling me I need a new air filter, they will do for $27.00. Also telling me my truck is done, "the engine work is finished." Just Wednesday, they told me the motor wouldn't even be delivered to them until today, installed and finished next week. Whatever. I start asking the service advisor about this, she said she didn't know anything except that the motor is in and done. After further conversation, I asked her if it was the exact same type. (ie) specs as my original. Could she tell me the year, HP, torque, etc. produced by that motor.
It came down to, she said it does not have to be the exact same under the warranty. Is this fact? She is telling me, it could be a 4.6 out of another truck, Crown Vic, Mustang etc. It could have come from anywhere. All they gurantee is that is a remanufactured 4.6, period. Is this woman telling me the truth, is she lost or what? I am suspicious again. How an engine can be ordered and replaced in two days. Paranoid? You bet! Dealing with a delership like this, anyone would be.
BTW, cant have the truck till tomorrow, they found a vaccum leak they want to fix first.

A new air filter at an autoparts store is around $14-$15 for a Fram or similar. Save yourself $10 and do it yourself. All I want to know is where abouts in Kansas are you so I know what dealership to stay away from? I really don't think there is a lot of difference between the 4.6 short block in any of the vehicles you mentioned. The heads may be different depending on the application but they'll probably put the same ones you had back on. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me here. I'm sure if the reman. engine was handy that they could have it back together in 2 days. They have all the cool tools after all.

Hey Brent,
It's funny because I JUST put a new air filter in two weeks ago when I changed oil and plugs. Must have gotten pretty dirty sitting in that shop all week huh? I see your in KC, me too. Overland Park, actually. I don't know, can you slam a dealer on this forum without some legal ramification? Some forums won't let you mention vendors by name for those type of reasons. Think about it, I am in 'shawnee mission' and I go to a Ford dealer. 2+2=?

Okay Man. I gotch ya. That's not where I bought mine nor where I would take it for service which is somewhat of a relief. I'm in Olathe but bought my Expy at a Ford dealer on Metcalf. As far as the filter goes, it sounds like a cheap shot to me. It makes you wonder how many people they take advantage of doesn't it? I feel your pain though. I would be losing sleep over the frustation but then that's just me. Good Luck and let us know how it works out when you get the truck back.

It most probably is a long block. All that is missing is the accessories. Alternator, PS, A/C. While the old motor is out they strip the accessories off and install them on the long block replacement. The Truck 4.6 is different from a car engine. The TB is mounted with the opening towards the front of the engine for the trucks and towards the passenger fender at an angle for the car applications.

Equal to, or exceeding factory specs is okay. The question is though, what is the dealership giving you / me? She told me that a 4.6 is what I am getting. Can not guarantee that it (the reman) was built for, or previously came from a truck, a car, a GT Mustang, whatever. She said they have no idea, other than it is a 4.6 and that alone satisfies the ESP warranty.
It is a long block, according to them. That isn't in question. Before I was concerned with the quality, now I am just wondering what it is. Why I was told on Wednesday that it would be delivered to them on Friday, give it 3-5 days after that for install. Why and how they got it in and installed in two days from that projected time. I suppose my insinuation is, did they really switch my motor, how can I tell for sure and if so, what did I really get?

An engine is an engine, a motor is electrical. Possibly so. I grew up hearing uncles and brothers, that built race 'motors' and people that work on the railroad talk about 'engines' that are electro diesel. You may have to also correct the dealer whom has repeatedly talked to me about replacing my 'motor.'
