Chips everyone talks about are now actually a computer that reprograms the computer in the truck. The earlier engine computers used to have replacable "chips" that you removed from the computer and replaced. Modern engine controls are now programable in the truck. There is a forum just for performance programmers and the guy who post most of the threads sells a programmer that from all indications is real good. I just replaced my '99 with an 03 and will be looking into some of these mods myself after I get it broken in.

I own Pestco Service Company in Fountain Valley. I had a '99 F150 ext cab w/ 190,000 k Mi on it until last weekend. Took the shell off it and put it on a new 03 w/ 5.4L ( old truck was 4.6) really nice to have a new office / truck. I work from S.D. to Saugus ( have two stops in victorville) so I really rack up the miles. The rebate money and matching down payment offer came at a great time for me. Hope you like your new ride. This site is full of great tips and people here really know a thing or two.
