Restore Automotive Products

Has anyone used or know about Restor Automotive Produts, Engine Restorer and Lubricant. It comes in a silver can and claims to fill in cuts and scratches in the cylinder walls. This is supposed to restore compression, restore horsepower, and reduce oil comsumption.

My question is, how does this stuff know when it has filled in a scratch or cut. You add it to your oil (of course). So what if it gets confussed and decides that a cam shaft of rocker arm is a scratch or cut?

I have been seeing the comercials on the New TNN, and the Speed Chanel so I was interested.

My 4.6 just turned 140,000 and I do alot of towing. It will lose about a quart between oil changes, but no smoke or loss of power. No problems.

According to their patent, it is minute spherical ***** of copper and lead suspended in various basestocks depending on application. The idea is that these "*****" will plate up the engine and thereby restore the engine. And if my grandmother wore steel toed boots she would be a tank.

Don't waste your money on this stuff. Many years ago I used some of these products (Restore, DuraLube, etc.) and all I did was waste my money. At your mileage a quart of oil between changes is nothing to be concerned about, especially if you have no problems with the truck.

I wouldn't waste my money either... Unless you have a really good reason to do so, I would really hesitate before ever adding anything to your oil. Other than fuel injection cleaner (such as Techron which is added to your fuel) I would stay away from additives in general.

Hi Cliff

Have used restor in the past for oil consumption. It did slow oil burning.

If you use only 1qt. between oil changes @ 140,000mi..that's not bad at all. May/maynot be worth cost?

Restor as i recall comes in different size cans for different size engines.

Good luck...OT

btw..i do agree some arent worth the $$$.

In my general opinion and what I would say to any of my better customers is that most additives are not worth the time if your not having problems. Sure some (and very few at that) might restore or gain you a little HP, MPG, or compression. Now if your having engine problems then adding any of these products is not going to do any more harm the least that can happen is that it does nothing and the best is that it corrects or at least delays the problem. I belevie that you can not buy "a mircle in a can".
