Lost the alternator twice in two days.....
But it's all good now. What an ordeal though..
My wife and I were meeting in Albuquerque, NM, for a drive across the Southwest to LA. I left Houston on Sunday morning, and by ten the next morning I was about 15 miles from Alb. and an hour early to pick her up from the airport when, all hell broke loose First thing I noticed was the radio started turning off and on, then glanced over to see the volt gauge was sitting at 0. From there on things went south in a hurry. no windows, no speedo, etc etc.....then the engine died.... I noticed a Ford dealer right before everything went haywire, so I called AAA and got towed there. About 2 hours later I finally get a rental car and headed to the airport to pick up my wife. We were both wiped out so we stayed in Alb. for the night, and picked it up the next morning.
Well, we picked it up, and everything seemed to be fine, so we headed out.. We got about 30 miles out West of Alb. and here we go again,,,,sigh. Everything died in the same order.
I gave the svc. advisor a call and he was very aplogetic, and said sit tight and they would arrange for the towing. 2 1/2 hours later the tow truck finally showed, after standing on a hill in 25 mph winds and chilly weather so the cell would work. Brrrr!
We get back to the dealer and they got it all done within about two hours, and we hit the road again. So far it seems to be fine, although my fingers are still crossed. Made it to the Grand Canyon today, and Vegas tomorrow. Some where along the road tomorrow we will hit 100k. Wish me luck??
Thanks Kirby(svc advisor) at Brad Francis Ford in Los Lunas, NM. The first alternator wasn't their fault, and they went the extra mile staying after hours to get us going again.,,,,98
On a side note, if a beep starts coming from inside the dash, you have about one, possibly two minutes before you are walking
