Got 2 1999 F-150's in the family and both have the engine light on. In my truck the light came on right after hitting 45,000 miles, and my bro-in-law's light came on right after 60,000 miles. Is this programmed into the computer for maintnance or is it just coincidence that it came on now, and we should get the trucks looked at? I'm not a fan of taking the truck int oa dealership, so if it's a maintnance thing I'll just reset the comp on it.

If you have an autozone close to you, have them scan the codes, then you can search, and if that doesnt work you can post it and someone can help you.

to answer your ? about it being an automatic thing its not, the CEL only comes on if theres an issue.
