You should be able to pull the white piece out if you want. I tried but I didn't want to take a chance on it breaking. I just used pliers to loosen the compression clamp and slid it down the vacuum line. I then pulled the hose off as I twisted back and forth.

Well i finally got to do it. Man that little clamp put up a fight. Once off i kept it just barely attached til i started the truck. Took it off and put it in and wow that thing sucked it up fast. Truck never died while doing it but did idle like crap. Turned off the truck and let it soak while i cleaned it off.

20 minutes later tried to start it. took 3 tries but once started only a small amount of smoke came out let it idle for about 20 minutes then reved it. Maybe its just me thinking it or maybe it just is better. But throttle felt more responsive and didn't want to die after a real quick tap of the gas. will see when i go for a drive too.

Did you pour the whole thing in or what? Mine started right up after using 1/2 of it.

Just for the hell of it hook a timing light up and check where it's sitting. The bolt on the distributor may have come a little loose and if you where in there working on it you may have moved it a little or a lot without even knowing it.

There isn't a distributor on these motors.

no distributor on the modular motors. I have a 4.6 with coil packs. Truck is running pretty good. got 13.5 on the last tank.

And now for the pic.

Just to be clear...
I disconnect the above hose and pour (with the motor running) around 8oz. of seafoam in.

I'm getting really crappy mileage and this sounds promising.

that is the hose i used. I struggled to get mine off. Took forever to find a pair of pliers to squeeze the clamps. Take it off when the truck is off then just slightly push it back on and start the truck up. I poured the seafoam into a plastic cup and just sucked it right up. It has a lot of vacumm and sucks it up fast. No need to pour it in.

Interesting thread.
Mine did the almost the same thing last month. Family and I had to make an emergency run up to Jersey from Florida. Milage around home (Florida) is 12-13 mpg. On the road it was 18+ mpg. The whole time we stayed in Jersey (2 1/2 weeks) the temp air temp didn't get above 28* and my mpg dropped to 9-9.5 mpg. As soon as we hit the road for home the mpg jumped back up to normal and same when we got home. It's been normal since.
I chalked it up to running very rich in the cold conditions. BTW this was the first time in the trucks life (111,000 mi) that it has seen extreme cold weather.

Hope you didn't wear shorts and a tshirt the whole trip up. 28* is a heat wave for us in the winter.

So tonight I bought and used sea-foam..

The immediate difference is noticeably better acceleration and smoother idle.
I used 8oz. (about what the directions suggest)

I'm wondering how often I should do this treatment?
Also should I pour a bottle into my gas tank next fill?

Thoughts?
