oil filter locations

hello, I had a 97 fi50 xlt, 4.6v8, 4x4 super cab and the oil filter was up under the front bumper on the drivers side...nice and easy to get to. I really loved the f150 so I bought a new one in 2002...got the super cab 8 foot bed, with the FX4 package in the F150 .....the Oil filter on this truck is on the block like most vehicles....I really liked the 97's location......was there a reason the 97 had it up under the bumper and the 2002 doesnt?........anyone?......thanks...bob

ps..the seat on the 97 was way softer than the 2002....otherwise I love this 2002 just as much.....bob

my lariat has it up front too.

It seems like some people got it, and some didnt. I havent seen any common reason (ie a certain package) that gives you the remote filter...seems like a luck of the draw type thing.

Although, I may be wrong, it may have been some sort of package deal.

I just rear ended a chevy S-10 and my filter got damaged. I lost all 6 quarts of oil onto the ground...too bad. Oh well I just changed the filter and all is good.

It was easy to fix. Werid location

yeah, you can search on this board.

There's a guy, Galaxy, that made his own relocation kit, and he has all the parts listed somewhere. You can also check out his gallery to see pics.

I think that only the 97s had the oil filter up there behind the fog light. That's where mine is as well, but I think it was changed just because of the reason the if you hit something, it will damage the oil lines or the filter, and that could lead to bigger problems. I like it there, though.

LMAO!!! Damn, glad everyone is okay. I know you hate Chebbies, but take you aggression out in a constructive way.

The reason for dropping the remote filter location (my '97 had it) was really quite simple. More parts equals more cost equals less profit. The bean counters asked why they needed something no other vehicle had. They won.

The oil filter on my 97 4.6 is to the left of the oil pan. Easy to get to and change.

My 98 has the remote filter.

I heard that Ford relocated the filter back on the block due to engine damage after a minor front end collision caused by filter damage and loss of oil.
