89 F150 302 surging
I have a 89 F150 4X4, 302, 4-speed tranny .
Replaced the tps, o2, dist cap., replaced the egr vaccuum controller box, cleaned egr, throttle body... Ran a whole bottle of SEafoam thru brake vaccuum line.check for Vaccuum leaks Reset computer...
The problem's at first was motor shut down when turning in to entrances off of road, would fire right back up, when idleing, it would go between 450 and 900 rpm, will eventually cut off, realy gets bad with a/c running...
After all the work mention above, it ran fine after initial fire up, went for test drive, now it doesnt want to pull out, will go dead if you dont rev up some. Exhaust smells like it is loading up with fuel... going down the highway, you can feel the motor like it is trying to strain a bit at first bit of acceleration....
Thanks for any info that someone may have on this

Just a guess but I would say idle air controler is dirty. It is located on the side of the throttle body. If you look in the butterflies ( i believe its the lower one) You can see a couple holes on the right. That is where the IAC is. I would give that a cleaning and see what happens. I used to have that problem wiht my 88.
Hope that helps.

Ok, runs abit better now, but starting to get some backfire from one side when letting off accelerator.
I was told that I should here the fuel pump run (priming up) when I first turn the ignition on, but I have never heard this sound since I bought the truck in 94. He says there are 2 fuel pumps on this one, a low and a high. One on the frame, and one in the tank?
Could the possibility of one going bad cause this? Or maybe the lack of pressure making it to the passenger side, the computer is telling it to send more fuel causing the flooding?

Hunter4u, have you checked all of your relays under the hood? It should be on the drivers side just infront of the hood hinge. There are relays in there that control the fuel pumps, also look for broken wires, etc here. You should hear the pumps kick in, also check the connections at the pump as well. Turn the key on with your window down or door open and you should hear it run.
If this doesn't get you anywhere, go to the Pre-'97 Section and post there OR look for a member by the name of PKRWUD. He is awesome on pre-'97 trucks. He should point you in the right direction.
