F150 Gas tanks - largest size available?

I have Lightning, 2004, and am looking to find what F150 had the largest fuel tank. The Lightning needs gas often, and I would like to get around 400 miles per tank. Right now it is a 25 gallon tank and will not come close to that.

Anyone know if F150s of this body style had larger tanks? Or of aftermarket tanks exisit? Thanks,

Ron

Yup, the 04 f-150 has the 35.7 gallon tank as an option on certain vehicles. I made sure I got the 35.7 gallon tank when I purchased my truck. It's nice filling up every 400-500 miles.

That would be new style you fellows are talking about, right?

What would be available for the "Heritage Style" trucks as that is essentially what the Lightning is.

Thanks,
Ron

Yes, they're talking about the new body style. Yes, you have the 25 gallon tank. That's all you'll get in a Ford tank for that body style. The Heritage long beds have a 30 gallon tank that won't fit your truck. Unfortunately, you'll never get 400 miles on a 25 gallon tank in a Lightning. As a last resort, you might try asking if anyone has installed a larger, aftermarket gas tank over in the Lightning area. To further complicate the problem, you have an in-tank fuel pump, several fuel/emission lines, mounting, and the fill neck to deal with.

Thanks for some of that info, that is useful. The Lightning group is useless on this issue, I got resposes ranging from "if you have a bigger tank then weight goes up and mileage goes down" to "buy a diesel". Wrong and useless reponses, in that order.

I can handle routing the lines and the pump, does anyone know of a source for aftermarket tanks?

Yep, the "heritage" models only had 25 gallon tanks available for the short beds.

I would say you could start here for some fuel cells.
Good Luck.

You're somewhat welcome. I did recommend the Lightning area as a last resort . My response was the most informative, except for aftermarket applications. I don't recommend these for safety reasons.

Check out www.transferflow.com, I believe they have a 35+ gallon version that uses the existing filler neck.
