97 4.6L short block

Where is the best place to get a short block?

I am looking for a 4.6L short block for my 97 ext cab 4x4 truck. This will be a project engine that will be supercharged.

Thanks, John

You will pay a fortune for a prepped short block.

Try Sean Hyland Motorsports

Fox Lake

Team VT

There are more out there and as I think of them I will post.

You can try here

I've ordered from them before (bought some wheel covers), but nothing this big...

Using a stock short block will save you a substantial amount of money. You can safely run about 10 lbs of boost. If you want to go higher then you will need to beef up your engine. Detonation will kill your pistons so be sure you get a proper tune for the application.

Aren't the rods the weak point of the 4.6? I think Mustang guys make lots of power on stock blocks and cranks, but change the pistons and rods.

The pistons are the weakest part. If it detonates under boost you will blow a hole in the piston before you brake a rod.
But you point is noted and should one want to push more power a better crank and rods will be needed. The Cobra crank is forged steel and will take more power than the stock cast one. So I guess that while you have the engine apart you might as well go all out and get better rods too.
