Has anybody had a rough start where the engine sounds as if it has no oil? A loud rattle and then smooth out as oil pressure builds? Ford has replaced the oil filter to prevent over bleed, but it still does it? I found metal slivers in the oil pan which indicates something is chewing itself up. Anybody in the same boat?

 

My 05 5.4 screw has sounded like that on startup for a while, but today it did something new, it made a large clunk and quit cranking. I retried and it started fine, but still sounded dry. I am taking it in tomorrow for that as well as the reflash and the knocking sound. Mine does it bad like when just getting on the gas to accelerate and during accelleration. Baffling since I've only got 8800 miles on it. Do the cam phasers make the noise during accelleration, or is it something new?

 

my 04 5.4 was never quiet since new...at 40,000 +km you can hear the engine clicking inside the cab, when new you can only hear it at drive threws with the window down...this truck sounds like it's running with out oil. odd time I hear a knocking some where in the right side when the hood is open..oil is clean and at correct level...power is ok...mileage is good...I'm not worrying abought it...in sept 06 I'm buying a new truck..
