I'd get the 5.4 that's what my dad has in his 01 and what i have in my 05 i mean yeah the 4.6 will save you a lil on gas, but if you drive the 5.4 easy you'll get good my dad averages 14-16 in the city and 17-19 on the highway no matter how hard or how easy he drives it and i get about the same

Ponder this.......the 5.4 has more horses and torque than the 4.6....take 2 exact trucks, except engines of course and lets say for this demonstration both engines are making there respective horse and torque ratings. A driver takes one down the track and records a time. The SAME driver takes the next truck down the track and records a time. So what you are saying is that the 5.4 will be slower than the 4.6?? That's ridiculous. Why does the Lightning have a 5.4 and NOT a 4.6 then? And why would Ford even build a 5.4 if the 4.6 is whooping it?

What kind of crack are they smokin' down there in Central Texas??

You sound like me when I was 18. I had the "smaller" V-8 and swore that I could beat anybody with it, which of course I couldn't. You'll grow out of that phase sooner or later, don't worry.

I have the 5.4 in a Screw. I had it in the dealer's shop for maintenance and they loaned me a truck like mine, but with the 4.6. I was so glad when I was able to return it and get my truck back. It was so underpowered it drove me nuts. Did not save gas either, being underpowered, it worked harder to get down the road. Milege per gallon almost identical to my 5.4. My wife even noticed the difference and she was in the passenger seat!

There's no replacement for displacement. There's no substitute for cubic inches.

I've got agree (only because it's obvious) that the 5.4 is going to give you more HP and more torque than the 4.6. I mean, it's in the numbers. But what it all boils down to is what the individual wants. I've got a 2000 SCab 4.6 and I love it. Works great. It's got the limited slip axle and the truck has yet to lack torque. I tow some, but mostly haul things in the bed (upwards of 1000 lbs) and am very satisfied with the performace this thing gives me. I have heard that the 4.6 Winsor is better for towing and hauling, but I've got a Romeo and, like I said, it works great. I haven't drove the 5.4, but I'm sure it's got more power, more torque and will most likely get you down the road a little quicker, if you so choose to let it. So it's up to the buyer on what they want. You can't let some one else make your decisions. BTW, I get better gas mileage in my truck than my mom gets in her Buick Rendevous.

5.4....Under load a 4.6 is harder on flue, Harder on the engine...not towing or Hauling? Get the 5.4 Your not really saving flue with the 4.6 as the f-150 is not a light truck

the 4.6L reaches is power band quicker then the 5.4L does due to the fact the 5.4 has about a half inch longer stroke... making the 4.6 a more sporty engine due to it bein able to handle higher rpms and making the crank be under less strain along with wrist pins and rods... yes the 5.4L has more power but the sheer fact that the 4.6L builds rpm faster makes it the faster engine

Sorry faster150, I just can't buy that....interesting theory, but just doesn't work in this case.

the only way the 4.6 would gain rpm faster then a 5.4 is if it has a significantly steeper gear.

It takes either gears or power to rev more quickly.

Or if it's on an engine stand.
